Submission GuidelinesDeadline: January 31, 2025
Submissions must be made by a KATE member via our online submission system.
Our editorial team carefully reviews all entries, providing constructive feedback to authors advancing toward publication. Each applicant receives an emailed copy of the journal, and the current year's publication is available for free on the KATE website. Previous volumes are accessible through the members-only archive.
Written ManuscriptsAccepted categories: literary criticism, poetry, creative fiction & non-fiction
  • Word Count Limits: Prose/Essay - 1,000 words; Poetry - 100 lines; Artist Statements - 100 words
  • Typed in Times New Roman, 12-point font
  • Double-spaced, numbered pages (MLA or APA guidelines if applicable)
  • Save as .doc/.docx or .rtf
  • No identifying information should appear on the manuscript
Artistic Expressions
  • Submit photos of non-digital art (e.g., pottery) in .jpg, .jpeg, or .png format
  • Digital art should also be in .jpg, .jpeg, or .png format
  • Include a 100-word maximum written description of the piece
Publication Timeline:
Voices of Kansas publishes in the spring, celebrating the creative work of Kansas students.
Let’s showcase the incredible talent in Kansas classrooms. Encourage your students to submit, and help them achieve the recognition they deserve!
