Looking forward to the 2025 conference is becoming more and more exciting as each day passes.
As of current, breakout session proposals are now being accepted, registration is open, and the Keynote Speaker has been announced! It’s difficult to believe that we are arriving at the midway point between both last year’s and this year’s conference! If you’re someone who has never been to a KATE Annual Conference, or if you are someone who has had too many emails come through since then that you’ve forgotten what happened at the conference, it’s always nice to have a refresher. Especially when those refreshers come from new voices and new perspectives on the situation. Pre-service teachers in Dr. Katie Cramer’s English Education program at Wichita State University transformed their experiences into thoughtful blog posts, reflecting on the conference’s wealth of engagement opportunities, learning experiences, and takeaways. The Kansas Association of Teachers of English (KATE) convened its executive board meeting on November 2nd, 2024, discussing critical initiatives and strategic planning for English language arts education in the state.

Thank you for a lifetime of incredible tenacity and enthusiasm, LuAnn! This award is well deserved. Congratulations! Last month, I had the opportunity to attend and present at the 2023 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Convention in Columbus, Ohio. Being a newer educator, this experience was one that I cannot recommend enough! That is not to say that educators (or just the general English lover) of all years of experience would not benefit from attending this conference. From the astounding number of vendors and authors in the convention center itself to the hundreds of breakout sessions over the four days that it took place, this was a fount of knowledge!...

As National Poetry Month comes to a close, we felt it germain to highlight the poetry interactions throughout our respective communities. From poetry readings, to open mic nights, poetry is indeed alive and well in Kansas. As educators, we seek authentic ways to incorporate arts in our student’s lives, and one of the best ways we can do that is to seek out authentic opportunities to interact with art in public.
